With the introduction of the ATEX Directive (94/9/EC) in July of 2003 it became mandatory for all equipment designed for use in hazardous environments within the European Community to meet the new standards.

With a higher classification gas protection (II 2 G EEx ib IIC T4) and dust protection (II 3 D T1300C IP54) a unique Motorola capability - no other manufacturer claims ATEX dust protection - the new products are the standard bearer for Intrinsically Safe hand portable radios.

Development of the new ATEX professional series means that these radios come with enhanced features as standard. These features include sophisticated signalling options based on PL/ 5 Tone or trunked (MPT 1327) that deliver a built-in 'Lone Worker' tool which can be extended to provide a mandown functionality.

The new series comes with an ATEX approved LiIon battery delivering 16 hrs talktime and a soft leather case. A further range of ATEX approved accessories are also available and in some cases, certain existing Motorola ATEX accessories can be re-used through the use of a 12-pin adapter.
